Submit to be considered for MashUp’s 2024 Residency Program
Submission Details
MashUp's Choreographic Residency Program gives an early-mid career female-identifying/non-binary/trans choreographer the opportunity to create a new work with company dancers over a month-long period. Thanks to an impact grant from the California Arts Council, the selected choreographer will receive a $2000 stipend, 30 hours of studio time with MashUp dancers, a fully produced culminating showcase, and professional video and photography documenting the work.
WHO CAN APPLY: Any and all choreographers who identify as women or nonbinary, including trans women. The residency program is open to artists in all career stages, with an emphasis on early/mid-career.
THE SELECTION PROCESS: Preference will be given to project proposals / Artist statements that highlight unique stories and traditions, encourage critical thinking about gender issues, or explore current societal issues through an intersectional feminist lens. MashUp’s Creative Council evaluates applications individually, using a ranking system that considers relevance to and fit within this year’s creative themes, and artistic and technical merit, with special weight given to unique personal concepts, personal stories, or themes. The Council then holds a collective meeting to discuss individual scores and decides on finalists for the class/mock rehearsals based on the above criteria. A recipient is selected based on feedback from dancers and evaluations from creative council members of the class/mock rehearsal.
