get to know: Noël Arreolla

"I am currently a student at the University of Southern California majoring in American Studies and Psychology. I also love photography and have gotten to develop that skill through classes at USC as well. School has always been really important to me, and even fun! I will admit I am a bit of a nerd, so while I am not exactly sure where my degree will take me, I'm confident that my future will include dance, photography, as well my academic interests."

"I love concert dance simply because I love performing on stage in front of an audience. I love being a part of artistic pieces that showcase our technical and performance strengths as dancers. There is something about the energy of live performance that I am absolutely addicted to- I feel beautiful and confident whenever I get the chance to perform live!"

"For me, success has everything to do with happiness. I want to create a life and career where I wake up every morning feeling motivated to pursue my goals. If I am doing something that makes me truly happy, I believe I will create the best possible version of my life, and of myself!

This picture was taken after MashUp's show last season, "Usual Places." I was beyond excited that so many of my friends could come support me! I have been blessed with such wonderful friends and family. They mean everything to me and have made me the person I am today!

"My favorite part of dance class is the positive energy. I love taking classes where everyone is supportive and cheering each other on to push themselves to their fullest potential. My least favorite part of dance class is when people are inconsiderate of other people's dance space!"

How do you feel about always dancing and taking class in a mirror, how important to you is somatic awareness?

Dancing without using a mirror is one of the best dance experiences. Most of the time I rely on mirrors as a tool to see what my body is doing, but there is nothing like the feeling of being out of the mirror. Without worrying about what I look like, I can just dance from my heart and give it my all.

Do you have a favorite song or album? What do you blast at home?

I love so many different kinds of music, but when I'm at home dancing around I do like to pretend that I'm a rapper...So, for the past couple weeks I have been working on my rhymes while listening to Drake's new album, Take Care!

What is your dream job or dream role?

It would be a dream to go on tour with any of my favorite music artists. I would love to be able to travel and see the world while also performing for thousands of people!

"The most influential teacher in my life is Tawyna Kuzia, who directs my home studio. She has been such an inspiration to me for so many years, and always pushes me to reach my fullest potential no matter what!"

"I also especially admire and appreciate the teachers in LA who make the extra effort to teach more than just a combo, which is why some of my favorite classes in LA are from Erica Sobol, Kyle Hanagami, and Matthew Tseng!"
